stress management

Stress can be viewed as both helpful and unhelpful. In some circumstances stress can be helpful to motivate us into action, while in other situations stress can be unhelpful by making us feel overwhelmed as unable to cope. Stress is unique to an individual as what may stress one person may not stress another, and vice versa. When we do experience overwhelming levels of stress, it can produce strong physiological (e.g. nausea, bodily tension etc.), psychological (e.g. difficulties concentrating, poor memory, overburdened etc.) and behavioural (e.g. poor sleep, social isolation etc.) consequences. The stress of these consequences then go on to cause us, ironically, more stress, and we get stuck in this negative cycle. To escape the negative cycle we sometimes require additional help to manage.
