depression

Depression is a common mental health presentation that affects a lot of people, either directly or indirectly. Depression is recognisable by characteristics such as: sadness, significant loss/gain of appetite or weight, loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities, hopelessness and worthlessness, fatigue, lack of motivation, and even self-harm and suicidal thoughts/action. Depression often wreaks havoc on our ability to perform the most basic tasks (e.g. brush our teeth, have a shower, get out of bed). This inability to complete these tasks then go on to impact our functioning in the following areas:

  • School
  • Work
  • Relationships
  • Day-to-day

Despite our best efforts, when we are in our lowest lows, we become totally consumed by the dark and we are unable to see, or imagine, the light at the end of the tunnel. Furthermore, depression is often isolating, as we put on a 'mask' to hide our sadness from others, or we open-up but no one around us understands what we are feeling. This is where talking to an expert can help..
